Today we read an interesting report from the Smart Data Collective which found that cloud computing is especially valuable to businesses of all sizes as disaster recovery. The news source said that primary benefits of cloud-based disaster recovery are shorter downtime, lower costs and a smaller burden on operations. Based on today’s struggling economy, any opportunity to reduce costs without negatively impacting operations presents an attractive option for businesses- an opportunity not worth losing.
Additionally, the Smart Data Collective found that older forms of backup, such as tape, are less likely to succeed and are becoming more expensive to maintain. Additionally, tape backup offers less in terms of automation, so companies have to do more on their own. Moving backup files to the cloud also cuts down on the physical space required to store information.
The most surprising statistic from the report found that 70 percent of small- and medium-sized businesses go out of business within a year of losing information. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree?
