With Data Protection Server, a "snapshot" of all data being backed up online may also be stored locally. In the event of a disaster, our client's can restore the latest snapshot of their data directly from their Data Protection Server on the local network instead of over the internet. In this way, the Local Restore feature enables clients to restore their latest data quickly at LAN speeds even if you're using inexpensive internet technologies such as DSL or cable.

Local Restore behaves differently for backup sets depending on if they are assigned to a Retention Rule:

• Without Retention: Data Protection Server keeps a copy of the latest generation of the backup set files.
• With Retention: The same number of generations are backed up to the Data Protection Server as are online.

Backup sets flagged with Save on Data Protection Server will be restored from the Data Protection Server path. If any files are missing, the software will retrieve them from on-line storage on the DS-System.
